Water Rating Guide

Here at OBR ADV Gear, we use a three-step rating system to help our customers understand the level of waterproofing for each OBR product.

Weather Resistant, Level 1 (One Drop Rating)

Most of OBR’s products are sewn in their construction, with primary access through a zipper. For zippers not covered by a storm flap, water can ingress through the zipper coils if sprayed directly. Our Weather Resistant, Level 1 rating means that the product will withstand road spray and light rain, but water might pass through the zipper and stitching if sprayed directly. Weather resistant products will not protect from submersion.

Weather Proof, Level 2 (Two Drop Rating)

OBR’s Weather Proof, Level 2 rating is given to products that are sealed from the elements by design. These products have a full weather storm flap over all main compartment zippers, but are still sewn in their construction. This means that the product is protected from light and intermittent weather, but water can pass through stitching in prolonged and heavy weather conditions. Weather proof products will not protect from submersion.

Water Proof, Level 3 (Three Drop Rating)

OBR’s premier water proof rating is only given to products that are waterproof by the nature of their materials and construction (when the access points are properly sealed per the items instructions). OBR’s full water proof rating only applies to products that provide water proofing from heavy weather events and full submersion for short time periods.

Note that the ballistic nylon used in many OBR products has a light polyurethane coating on one side, making the material itself waterproof.
